Heroes of Bataan, Corregidor and Northern Luzon :

Heroes of Bataan, Corregidor and Northern Luzon : no army has ever done so much with so little… / compiled, edited and published by Marcus Griffin - Las Cruces, NM : Yucca Tree Press, c1989. - [viii], 231 p.. : ill., maps ; 28 x 21 cm.

Essentially a pictorial history of the war in the Philippines and the POW experience from an American perspective (almost nothing on the Filipinos), with photographs of the fighting, the leaders, memorabilia, and especially, the Americans who fought. Several photos of units before they departed for the Philippines, particularly the tank battalions, air corps squadrons and particularly the 200th Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft), a National Guard unit from New Mexico.

About half of the book are thumbnail photos and biographical sketches of specific men, mostly from the 200th. This enlarged second edition contains everything found in the first edition, with additional photos, maps, names and features. Griffin, the original editor, knew many of the New Mexico men and was inspired by their courage to compile this book. Matson, also from New Mexico, also came to know the survivors well: she wrote two books about them. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
