500 _aThe church exhibits the characteristic facade found among the churches of Camarines Sur: simple and massive with a minimum of surface ornamentation, given the look of addled height by a triangular gable crowned with a cross. The pilasters ornamenting the facade are capped with urn-shaped finials. The parish of Nabua was one of the first established in the region, the settlement having been founded in 1578 when two Franciscan missionaries, Frays Pablo de Jesus and Bartolome Ruiz established five rancherias in the locality. (The friars were the first of their Order to be dispatched to the Bicol region). Lupa, Antacodos, Panga, Caobnan and Bua or Nabua were the ranches. Nabua, being the central barrio, easily became the capital. Built here was the church to house the titular patron, the Holy Cross, which was originally kept at Antacodos by Fray Alonso Gimenez, an Augustinian and the first missionary to set foot in Bicol. YYY
