520 _aA detailed study of political collaboration in the Philippines, mainly in Manila, of key pre-war individuals then in power. De Viana narrates the basic events and characters of the Philippine Executive Commission and the Japanese-sponsored Philippine Republic in the first half of this book; the second half deals with the actual People’s Court trials for treason, based on newspaper coverage, linking the trials with early post-war political conditions and maneuvering for power. Mainly based on newspaper accounts and records of actual cases in the Jose P. Laurel Library and as published in the Official Gazette. (Misses out on the People’s Court papers at the University of the Philippines, however). This work was based on the author’s graduate thesis at the University of Santo Tomas. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
