500 _a"With the only authentic list of prisoners court-martialed by the Japanese and consigned to the new bilibid prisons (1942-1945)"
520 _aVivid and searing personal account by one of the founders of the Hunters ROTC guerrilla group. Ingles was a cadet in the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio when the war broke out, but was sent home due to his youth (he had only entered PMA as a member of Class ’45). He joined other cadets and helped organize a guerrilla organization. Tasked by the leader of the Hunters, Terry Adevoso, to head the intelligence network in Manila, Ingles made frequent trips to Manila and lived under the noses of the Japanese, collecting information and coordinating his agents, until arrested by the Japanese in June 1943. He writes about his interrogation and torture in great detail, one of the very few published works to do so. Ingles’ account is also unique in that he was imprisoned in four Japanese jails, and managed to survive. He was one of those freed by the Hunters in June 1944, when they staged a daring and dramatic raid on Muntinglupa to release Ingles and other captured Hunters. Very detailed, with sketches of torture and of the jails. Ingles notes the fates of some of his co-escapees. Appendices provide a list of all military prisoners in Muntinglupa, including their fates; reprints of period newspaper articles, and the personal account of another liberated prisoner. Important because this is one of the very few detailed accounts of Filipino guerrillas arrested, tortured, and freed. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
