245 _aBaseball team
500 _aThe Pangasinan High School baseball team. Baseball, a popular American pastime, became part of Philippine life by way of public-school physical education. A few years after the Thomasites--the first American teachers in the Philippines--arrived, the game was being played in towns all over the country. Rice fields and vacant neighborhood lots were converted into baseball fields. Balls were fashioned out of old socks and bats out of discarded wood.
