500 _aEntrance to the Biblioteca, San Agustin Monastery. A plaque reads: These halls connected the lower cloister with the Second Monastery, built during the period 1624-1667 and destroyed during World War II. In the adjacent gardens, Fr. Manuel Blanco,OSA (1778-1845) carried out the botanical experiments for his famous book "Flora de Filipinas". The Library contains now a small part of the rich collection of books and manuscripts which were kept in this Monastery. The collection was looted, first, during the occupation of Manila by the British (1762), and later during the Japanese Occupation (1942-1945).
