The fourth son of Gregorio and Carmen Araneta, at age 16. An accountant by profession, Ramon was an agricultural pioneer. In the Philippines, he was the first to build a compost pit following the method of Albert Howard, the father of scientific composting. He was married to Rita Valdes with whom, he had nine children.
