Villa Escudero is a progressive community, barrio-like in size, where more than a hundred families work in the vast Escudero plantation planted to coconuts, lanzones, bananas, rice, and other fruits and crops. It has its own elementary school and a church (the parish was established in 1952 in honor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary). It even has its own hydroelectric dam which supplies electricity to the community.
