Actually, the Haruna did not receive any direct hits. On his way to Clark Field(Pampanga), his plane was attacked by Japanese fighter planes and he died when his parachute failed to open. His body was found near the wreckage of the plane along a little country road some 3 miles west of Mt. Arayat.
