A factual account of the combined efforts made early in the Pacific War to supply food, ammunition, and medicine by sea and air to MacArthur’s beleaguered command on Bataan and Corregidor where 100,000 people were besieged. - Roderick HallLanguage/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: Well-researched account of the various attempts to reinforce the Philippines, albeit in small scale, by submarine, aircraft and merchant vessels. Although the US policy was Europe first, and most of the military forces were earmarked to fight Hitler, there were desperate attempts to get food, ammunition and weapons to Bataan and Corregidor – or at least the Visayas and Mindanao – as well as evacuate key personnel from the Philippines. This book narrates those brave attempts by Filipinos and Americans – many attempts were tragically unsuccessful, with ships being sunk by Japanese aircraft. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
