A historic battlefield during the Philippine-American war, now a popular beach resort. On November 21, 1899, an American gunboat stationed in Bohol attempted to land troops in Camiguin on the shore of Cabuwa-an, a sitio of Mambajao. A group of Filipino soldiers who called themselves "Los Libertadores" (The Liberators) thwarted the attempt. Under the command of Capt. Ricardo "Can-doy" Reyes, the twenty American crew members were forced to withdraw after losing one. The "Battle of Cabuwa-an Beach" lasted for two hours before sundown.
