Bronze sculptue of a bust of Juan Luna Y Novicio, by Mariano Benlliure. 16 inches tall. sined M Benlliure,dated 1884, Roma. This rare and priceless bust of Luna was at one time owned by Ireneo U. Cristobal of the Taller de Escultura on Echague, Manila. He bought it cheap from a pushcart vendor during the Liberation and had turned down many tempting offers from local collectors to buy it. This was sculptured in 1884 when Luna won the gold medal award for his "Spoliarium" in the Expositions Nacional de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Luna was then 27 years old. In 1881, Luna took a room in apartment No. 33 at Via Margutta, Rome togetherwith the Benlliure brothers from Valencia, Spain.
