Wygle) own memories and research. Robert Wygle worked at the Balatoc mine outside Baguio, accompanied by his family. Upon the Japanese attack, the family was evacuated to Manila while Robert stayed behind to close business. He did not know where in Manila the family had evacuated to, and not wanting to get captured by the Japanese in Baguio, he went on foot down the mountains for Manila – in time to be betrayed and interned at Santo Tomas Internment Camp. There, he was reunited with his family; they spent the next three years in the camp. Detailed account – with illustrations – of camp life, and the narrative shifts to Robert’s diary for 1945. Peter was eleven when the war started, and inserts his own memories, as well as information and other materials from other documents and books, in italics. Since his father was not from Manila and did not know many people in the camp, he provides a more objective and even critical perspective to camp administration and life. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
