They were originally bound for Africa but were diverted to Baguio, in the Philippines because of the threat of war. A detailed account of his family and the war was published as "Under the Shadow of the Rising Sun." This diary – one of the sources of his book – provides a detailed, contemporary account of events as they happened and life in Camp Holmes, Bilibid Prison and liberation; it covers January 1944 to February 1945. - Prof. Ricardo T.
