Scott narrates the unexpected start of the war for the Cavite Marines; the air raid on Cavite and subsequent abandonment of the base; combat on Bataan; escape to Corregidor after the fall of Bataan; service on Corregidor; escape by banca after Corregidor’s surrender, but eventually is taken prisoner. Over half of the book deals with Scott’s experiences as a prisoner of war in various camps, ending the war in Japan. The book’s title comes from the optimism of the prisoners of war – that they would be out in 90 days. It took over three years before they were freed. Scott criticizes some of the Americans in camp for telling on others; and also felt that the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki was unnecessary, after seeing the ruins of the city. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
