Cuenco at the same time that he reconstructed the seminary of San Vicente Ferrer. The cruciform structure of reinforced concrete has a high dome resting on a drum on pendentives constructed at the intersection made by the nave and transepts. The pair of belfries attached to the church are Gothic-inspired. Originally named Salog after the river which has always been its lifeline, Jaro was an annex of Oton until 1584, while the parish was a mere visita of Arevalo which later became the fifth parish established (1584) by the Augustinians in Panay. The town and parish sites were then in Mandurriao. The Jaro convent in Mandurriao became an Augustinian priory in 1598 until it was abandoned after its'' destruction in 1614 by the Dutch because it had sent help to Iloilo. Shortly there after Jaro was transferred to its present location nearer the mouth of Salog river. Again in 1644, the church convent of La Candelaria (Jaro parish) became an Augustinian priory for the second time (Dumangas had been abandoned). The parish was turned over the diocese in 1865, although the Augustinians remained there until 1888.
