This study documents and analyzes the guerrilla resistance movement in Mindanao highlighting the role of Americans in organizing the movement, while also placing it in the context of Filipino culture, the geographical conditions of Mindanao and Sulu, and Japanese occupational policies which pushed Filipinos to resist Japanese rule. Well documented (the Philippine Archives were not yet easily accessible at the time – they were still in US Army hands and not yet in the US National Archives) and benefitting from interviews and consultation with surviving American veterans. Concludes that Americans played a vital role in the guerrilla operations in Mindanao. - Prof. Ricardo T.
