N1  - The Pangasinenses' stubborn belief in anitos, priestesses, and witch doctors made them   difficult to Christianize. The story goes that the intercession of the Blessed Mother--Our Lady of the Rosary--made conversion possible.   This devotion to Our Lady explains the rosary that the young man in the picture wears around his neck.
