In 1864, Father Jose Cuevas submitted a plan for its expansion to become a school of secondary instruction. The plan took effect in 1865 and the name of the school was changed to Ateneo Municipal. The institution, now known as Ateneo de Manila, has evolved to become a university which presently has its campus in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
