N1  - Avanceña, 38, was a judge in the country''s 12th judicial district, which consisted of Leyte and Samar. Photo of jurist-patriot, later chief justice of the  Supreme Court.  Jurist Ramon Avaceña was born in Molo, Iloilo, on April 13,1872, to Lucas Avanceña and Petra Quiosay. After attending the Seminary of Jaro, Iloilo, he studied at Letran where he obtained his A.B. degree, and then took up law at the University of Santo Tomas where he graduated in 1898. After graduation, he took active part in the Revolution which had spread in the Visayas by then. He was made a political and legal adviser of the Revolutionary Government in Iloilo, Capiz and Panay. After the revolution, Avanceña practised law. He was appointed auxiliary Attoryney-General in the Bureau of Justice in 1902 and from 1905-1910, served as Judge-at-Large of the Court of First Instance. Subsequently, he was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. After the death of Chief Justice Manuel Araullo in 1926, Avanceña was named Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Avanceña was named Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Avanceña was married to the former Flocerfina Abad, by whom he had six children; Jesus, Martin, Alberto, Emilio, Jovito and Miguel. He died on June 12, 1957; With prints
