Soil turning is men's work, while transplanting is done by the women, who are considered quicker and more dexterous (Jenks, 98). Two crops are grown annually on irrigated patches--rice by irrigation during the dry season, and camote (sweet potato) without irrigation during the wet season. (See Jenks, 89-90 for description of how sementeras, or patches, are built. ) UR - http://retrato.com.ph/retratoimages/Midsize/PE/PE00706a.jpg UR - http://retrato.com.ph/retratoimages/Thumb/PE/PE00706a.jpg UR - http://www.retrato.com.ph/photodtl.asp?id=PE00706 ER -
