Entering the village not far from what is now Iloilo City, they were met by Marikudo, the "pangulo" or chief of short and swarty natives called the "Atis" , who after a peaceful negotiation agreed to the sale of Panay lowland for a golden headgear, locally called "salakot" and a necklace.
