The parish church in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, was established probably in the 1870''s by the Recollects. Constructed of red brick tiles and hardwood lumber, the church was burned by the guerrillas during the Japanese war when an enemy officer took cover inside the church. Only the brick walls were spared. Immediately after the war, the Jesuits made some repairs and put up a provisionary galvanized iron roofing.
