Language/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: Division history of the 71st Division, Philippine Army, one of ten reserve divisions mobilized in 1941 to defend the Philippines. The division, which became part of the USAFFE, was drawn from the 7th military district comprising the islands of Negros and Siquijor. The division was taken to Luzon to bolster the defending troops, and was held in reserve. It was sent to battle Japanese forces which had broken through the front lines but, in unfamiliar ground and with inadequate training and weapons, was unable to hold. It withdrew to Bataan where it saw action again in the Battle of the Points. One regiment served in Mindanao; newly mobilized units stayed in Negros and became the nucleus of the guerrillas there. As with other Philippine Army division histories of this series, the book is heavily based on Louis Morton’s work. Cases of Filipino heroism are cited; a partial roster of officers is appended. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose List(s) this item appears in: WWII - Japanese propaganda
