The guerrilla resistance movement in the Philippines [manuscript]
Type:

Manuscript (Loose-leaf with binder)Language/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: The Intelligence Series was compiled under the direction of Maj. Gen. Charles Willoughby, who was MacArthur’s chief of intelligence during and just after the war. The series includes an overall background volume accompanied by several documentary appendices taken from files of the Military Intelligence Section. Volume I of the series dealt with the guerrilla resistance movement in the Philippines, divided by island and region, as it was known in 1945, updated with corrections and additions submitted after the war. Each chapter was compiled as a separate monograph, appearing first in 1944 and updated; each one has a brief history and identifies the major personalities in the various guerrilla organizations. This compilation, appearing in 1948, served as the definitive documentation of the Philippine guerrilla resistance movement as seen and interpreted by MacArthur and Willoughby. The basic manuscript of this work was by Maj. E.A. Williams. Includes several detailed maps and an index of personalities. Despite its seeming thoroughness, a number of errors and omissions occur, and this document has to be confirmed with other primary sources. - Prof. Ricardo T. JoseSummary: Volume I, Part 2, Intelligence Series, Documentary Appendices: This companion volume to Volume I of the Intelligence Series provides primary documentary evidence for the effectiveness of the Fil-American guerrilla resistance movement, mainly as seen from captured and translated Japanese reports. These reports document guerrilla organizations and operations, as well as Japanese counter-guerrilla operations in various parts of the Philippines, primary sources which have not fully been appreciated. There are also reports by MacArthur’s Intelligence section on Japanese atrocities in Manila and Puerto Princesa, as well as Willoughby’s intelligence estimates of the Japanese, based mainly on guerrilla reports. - Prof. Ricardo T. JoseSummary: A collection of monographs. This information was of considerable value for planning purposes and general field use, and has been reproduced in book form as an historical record of a great national movement. - Roderick Hall
