The author recounts his involvement in the Filipino resistance to the Japanese occupation of Negros Island in the Philippines during World War II. - Roderick HallLanguage/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: eriences of an American professor of Silliman University in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Like most professors of the university, Silliman decided to evacuate to the mountains to evade the Japanese. After the surrender of the USAFFE in May 1942, Silliman and his wife remained in the mountains; he became an active member of the guerrilla resistance movement and became Deputy Governor of the Sixth Civil Administrative District of the “Free Negrosâ€Â government. Silliman writes about his activities with the guerrillas, problems faced, threats from Japanese anti-guerrilla raids, and the support of loyal Filipinos. Because there was a strong possibility that the Japanese would capture Silliman and other Americans with the guerrillas, he, together with other Americans in Negros, were evacuated by submarine to Australia in 1944. Silliman quotes from diary and cites several wartime documents verbatim, making this a valuable work. - Prof. Ricardo T.
