Norling, an American historian who has devoted much work on the Philippine guerrilla resistance movement, details the first resistance organizations, among them those led by American miner Walter Cushing, Col. John P. Horan, Lt. Cols. Martin Moses and Arthur Noble, Maj. Ralph Praeger, Filipino governors Roque Ablan and Marcelo Adduru, and others. These individuals led their units against the Japanese even after the fall of Corregidor, and many were arrested and killed by the Japanese. These organizations preceded the US Army Forces in the Philippines, North Luzon, which could not have been established without the sacrifices of the first guerrillas. Norling gives special attention to the Cagayan-Apayao Forces, which had not received much attention before, and which was overshadowed by the USAFIP NL. Based on important unpublished accounts and interviews and communications with surviving guerrillas and their children. - Prof. Ricardo T.
