A radio operator in a tank of the 194th Tank Battalion, he describes action from inside a tank: the bombing of Clark Field, withdrawal operations; combat on Bataan. He describes the Death March and adds interesting detail to photos taken by the Japanese. The book is also illustrated by sketches by artist and fellow-prisoner of war Ben Steele. Praises his battalion commander (Col. Ernest B. Miller, who wrote "Bataan Uncensored"). Gives credit to Filipinos who aided the prisoners, and also to humane Japanese he encountered. Critical of Gen. MacArthur and cruel Japanese guards. Accurate with names of people. Later in the war, FitzPatrick was taken to Japan on a hell ship, and forced to work in a steel factory in Kyushu. - Prof. Ricardo T.
