The Victoria, part of Magellan's expedition, was the first ship to circumnavigate the world. On its return to Spain in 1522, it carried gold and ginger obtained from Muslim traders in Mindanao and spices from the Moluccas. This cargo would justify more hazardous voyages to the East.
