To revive local interest in kite-flying, an outdoor sport that originated in the Far East, Filoil Marketing Corporation sponsored a contest at Rizal Park, in front of the grandstand. The contest was open to kite-flyers from 8 years old up. There were three categories: beauty (pagandahan) , aerobatics (pasikatan), and dogfight (patibayan).
