Type:

The Pangasinenses' stubborn belief in anitos, priestesses, and witch doctors made them difficult to Christianize. The story goes that the intercession of the Blessed Mother--Our Lady of the Rosary--made conversion possible. This devotion to Our Lady explains the rosary that the young man in the picture wears around his neck. He wears a white camisa of British cloth, striped trousers, a raincoat made of nipa, and a salakot of woven rattan (NIck Joaquin, The World of Damian Domingo: NIneteenth Century Manila, 1990, 40)Source: Colleccion de trajes Manila y de ls provincia ynbentado por D.
