First page of the first newspaper published in the Philippines, edited by acting Governor-General Mariano Fernandez de Folgueras. The maiden issue appeared on August 8, 1811, although publication data did not appear on the masthead till the second issue. Printed on Chinese paper, it contained from 7 to 15 pages depending upon the availability of news. Items were taken from English newspapers and there was a notable absence of local news in all of the 15 issues that were issued. The first number had 15 pages and contained news from Calcutta, a private letter and didpatches from London, Lisbon and Boston, news about the Spanish Cortes, etc. The fifteenth and last issue came out on February 7, 1812Image type: Original
