When Magellan landed in Cebu(then known as Sugbu), he immediately propagated Christianity. Prior to the holding of the mass on Sunday, April 14, 1521, approximately 800 natives were baptized. Among them were Rajah Humabon who was given the name Carlos in honor of King Charles I of Spain. The crown prince was named Fernando, brother of Charles I. A Siamese was given the name Cristobal. In the afternoon of the same day , more natives were baptized, including Humabon's wife who became the first native queen to accept Christianity. She was given the name Juana in honor of the King's mother. On that occasion Magellan presented Queen Juana wit a gift- the image of the Holy Child of Prague. Image type: Original
