Yangco, a London-educated lawyer, managed a shipping company owned by his family. In 1907 he operated ferries and steamers between Manila and nearby provinces. Shipowner, businessman and lawyer; born to Luis Yangco and Ramona Arguelles on November 9, 1861, in San Antonio Zambales. In 1917 he was appointed Resident Commisioner to the U.S. Congress and there worked for the amendment of the tarriff law giving advantages to Philippine products over those of other tropical countries in the U.S. market. He was also a philanthropist, charity worker and civic leader; president of the Gota de Leche, Associacion Civico-Moral de Manila, and treasurer of Associated Charities. He died on April 20, 1939. Shown is the second-generation shipping magnate famous for his philanthropic projects.
