A female turtle gets ready to lay her eggs in a hole she has dug, wide enough for her to move out when she's finished. Besides the egg and meat of turtles used as food, tortoise shell of commerce are obtained from the hawksbill turtles. The shells or scutes are removed by passing a flame over the back of the turtle.
