Shown is the statue of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of the school for Spanish boys founded by the Jesuits in 1601. It was erected in the patio between the school and the observatory in 1916. The college functioned as a seminary, a liberal arts institution, and then a college of medicine and pharmacy. Its site along Padre Faura Street is now occupied by the Pamantasan mg Lungsod ng Maynila.
