Historical marker on the beach near the residence of Mayor Hasan Yusop. The seven islets, (Baguan, Boaan, the Gret Bakungan, Langawan, Lihiman, Sibaung, and Taganak) were leased by the Sultan of Sulu onanuary 22, 1878 to the British North Borneo Company. It became part of the Philippines by virtue of the Treaty of Paris, between Spain and the United States, on December 10, 1898. Lessee continued administering then under the 1932 United States – Great Britain Treaty to be relinquished to owner upon a year’s notice. Transfer was made to the Philippines on October 16, 1947. Former President Diosdado Macapagal, then an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs, was sent by the late President Quirino to accept the return of the islandsImage type: OriginalMedia format: With prints
