520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This is partly a personal account of a soldier with the Flying Column which rushed to liberate the Santo Tomas Internment Camp, and partly a compilation of personal recollections of the internees there. Holland was a US Marine Technical Sergeant who accompanied the Flying Column (composed of the 1st Cavalry Division and attached units) in its daring advance through Japanese-controlled territory in Luzon to rescue the Allied internees at Santo Tomas. His duty was to coordinate aerial support by Marine Air Group 24 with the advancing mechanical units.

In addition to his own memories, Holland did archival research to provide additional historical data, and rounds up his book with memories of the internees on the other side of the fence, those he came to liberate. Also covers the days after the liberation, when the Japanese shelled Santo Tomas and killed some of the internees. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
