520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Personal memoir of an American officer who was in charge of one of the early radar sets in the Philippines. When the war broke out, the set was just being installed facing Cape Bojeador in northern Luzon; it was not yet ready for operation. Arnold’s unit was cut off by invading Japanese forces and he and his men joined the early guerrilla resistance in Northern Luzon. Arnold tells of his survival, operations in the resistance and role in the liberation, where he, as part of the US Army Forces in the Philippines, Northern Luzon, played in the liberation campaigns in 1945.

Partly fictionalized, the events are essentially true, but the names of individuals have been changed (Arnold gives himself the name John Barry; a guide to the names can be found in Jams Halsema’s review of the book in "Bulletin of the American Historical Collection," July-September 1982). The rock and fortress are Arnold’s religious faith and also the U.S., which Arnold argues should strengthen itself in the fight against Communism. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
