| General note | Th distinguished lawyer from Molo, Iloilo, who was elected secretary of the Malolos Congress in 1898. Following General Aguinaldo''s capture in 1901, Araneta saw the futility of resisting American rule. This prompted him to campaign for the country''s peaceful existence under U.S. sovereignty. Photo of the first native-born Filipino to be appointed to the Philippine Commission. As Secretaty of Finance and Justice, he is remembered for filipinizing the Attorney-general''s office and the Municipal court. |
