General note Posadas was mayor of Manila from 1934 to 1940. The present City Hall was constructed during his term. Juan Posadas, Jr. started as a road foreman in Zambales, worked in the government for 30 years until he became the 7th appointive Mayor of Manila. After working as a clerk with a salary of P40 a month, he was appointed deputy provincial treasurer of Zambales and later transferred to the Bureau of Audits. Then he successively became acting provincial treasurer of Cagayan in 1910 and of Laguna in 1911. In 1914, after oassing the provincial treasurer''s examination, he was named provincial treasurer of Negros Oriental and held this position until 1917. In Davao he also became secretary and treasurer. In the Department of Mindanao and Sulu he served as acting Governor and subsequently Governor. Previously, he was the department''s assistant treasurer. He was in Mindanao until 1920 and when he came back to Manila he became Collector of Internal Revenue. At the same time he was ex-officio chairman of the Tobaco Board, a member of the Rural Bank Commission and Director of the Philippine Society. Finally in 1934, he was appointed Mayor of Manila, succeeding Tomas Earnshaw. He died in office in 1940 and became the first public official to lie in state within the halls of Manila City Hall, the construction of which he had initiated. Posadas, born on December 10, 1884, was the son of Juan Posadas, Sr. and Elalia F. Pablo of San Narciso, Zambales. He studied at the Ateneo but did not finish his course due to the outbreak of the Revolution. He was married to the former Rosario Garcia del Fierro.
