Piloncitos

Piloncitos

Small cone-shaped pieces bearing on its crudely rounded bottom an inscription in early tagalog or Malayan script. Noted numismatist, Dr. Gilbert Perez, believed that the piloncitos were used in the Madjaphit Empire to which some parts of the Philippines were once included. Specimens of this currency form about 3/8 of an inch in diameter, werer found in a Chinese jar in Bagac, Bataan in 1927 and later in Mandaluyong, Rizal also ina buried jar.
