Caraga

Caraga Ayala Museum Research Team

As a safety measure against constant Muslim pirate raids along the easternmost coast of Mindanao, a chain of towns south of Tandag (capital of Surigao) was established, one of which was Caraga. Father Melchor de Vera in 1880’s chose the townsite on top of a hill overlooking the sea to detect sea raids. Photo was taken from the Caraga hilltop overlooking Caraga Bay and the town of Santiago.
