Juan Cabo, O.P.

The Spanish Dominican who was banished to Manila from Mexico in 1588. Cobo worked among the Chinese in the Parian, learned Amoy, and wrote "Trotoko de la Verdad de Dios," one of the first two printed books in the Philippines in 1593. A native of Consuegra, Toledo, he came to Manila in 1588 and started working on the conversion of the Chinese in the Parian. Also sent a book "Beng Sim Po Cam" to King Philip II. Died in 1595 in Formosa from a shipwreck after a diplomatic mission to Japan.
