NAMARCO retail store- National Marketing Corporation

In the early 1960s, the rise in the prices of basic commodities was a major political issue. The prices of goods like sugar, cooking oil and milk rose because rice, the bellwether of prime commodities, was scarce. And since industries were then buying their raw materials in the free market, they had to pay more for their imports and later pass on to the consumers this additional cost. National Marketing Corporation in 1955. R.A. 1345, approve by President Magsaysay on June 17 (1955), provided for the capitalization of the new corporation, NAMARCO was designed to be a wholesale supplier to Filipino retailers.
